How to Connect the OilWear (OW) Sensor: A Step-by-Step Guide for Seamless Setup

Connecting your OW Sensor correctly is essential for accurate particle analysis and real-time oil monitoring. Follow these steps to ensure your system is powered, communicating, and ready for operation.

Sensor Connection Overview

The OW system features versatile electrical/electronic interfaces that facilitate data acquisition and operation. It includes:

Power Supply Input

  • Modbus RTU Interface (RS485 Communication)
  • Modbus TCP/IP Interface (Ethernet Communication)

Connector Details

The OW uses a 5-pin M12 male connector to streamline connections for power and Modbus RTU communication:

Pin Function Wire Color
2 VDC IN (Power) White
3 GND IN (Ground) Blue
5 D– (RS485 Data -) Gray
 4  D+ (RS485 Data +)  Black

Step-by-Step Connection

    1. Power Supply
      1.  Connect the 24VDC Power Supply to the sensor using the OW2-Wire_A patch cord.
      2. Ensure the correct pins (VDC IN and GND) are matched.
    2. Modbus RTU (RS485 Communication)
      1.  Use pins 4 (D+) and 5 (D–) for RS485 communication.
      2.  Connect the OW to your control system or acquisition device.
    3. TCP/IP Communication (Optional)
      1. If using Modbus TCP/IP, connect the OW2-ETH patch cord to an Ethernet port.
      2. Use the internal TCP/IP server for data acquisition.

LED Indicators for Quick Diagnostics

The OW features LED indicators to inform you of its status:

  • Red (Stable): Power is ON.
  • Orange (Stable): TCP/IP communication established.
  • Orange (Blinking): TCP/IP data transmission in progress.

Quick Notes:

  • The OW starts working automatically with default settings.
  • Calibration is unnecessary for oil type (except for OilHealth degradation monitoring).
  • Ensure all connections are sealed to IP65 standards for environmental protection.
