Bridgestone Basauri and Atten2: A long-term alliance in predictive maintenance

Rafael Quiros, Head of Predictive Maintenance at Bridgestone’s Basauri plant, recently gave a presentation at the Maintenance Bilbao forum about their successful Industry 4.0 strategy, where predictive maintenance has played a key role. Among the implemented solutions, the ongoing collaboration with Atten2, initiated in 2017, stands out as a central part of this transformative process.

For over eight years, Atten2 has supported Bridgestone Basauri in monitoring critical machinery within the production process. This joint effort has not only enabled the anticipation of failures and optimization of maintenance planning, but has also significantly extended lubricant life and reduced total operating costs.

A solid technological partnership

The relationship began with a clear goal: to improve operational reliability and the sustainability of industrial processes at the Basauri plant. The installation of Atten2’s smart sensors, such as the OilHealth and OilWear S models, on screw compressors allowed the plant to shift its maintenance strategy from scheduled inspections to continuous monitoring based on real operating conditions.

As detailed in our success story in the automotive sector, this implementation achieved measurable results:

  • Extension of oil change intervals from 6 months to 2 years.

  • Reduction of lubricant consumption by 75%, resulting in annual savings of €19,000.

  • Return on investment in less than 7 months.

  • Optimized uptime of the compressors, which are essential for supplying air to the entire plant.

Expanding the technology to other assets and plants

The success of this project has driven the adoption of Atten2 sensors in other units at the Basauri plant, such as gear reducers, and has laid the groundwork for deploying our technology in other Bridgestone facilities.

“This long-standing collaboration reflects Bridgestone’s trust in our technology and our ability to deliver real impact in their operations,” says Eneko Gorritxategi, CEO of Atten2. “We remain committed to supporting their digital transformation, bringing intelligence and reliability to their industrial processes.”
